A committee that supports the English-speaking community
Provisions in the law specify specific means available to Jeffery Hale – Saint Brigid's (JHSB), particularly with regard to recognized local management. They also provide for specific protection that supports the mission to serve the English-speaking population. Among other things, the law allows for the creation of an Advisory Committee.
The JHSB Advisory Committee is composed of nine members, as follows:
- The director of the Jeffery Hale Hospital – Saint Brigid’s grouped institution, appointed under Section 210;
- A representative from the council of physicians, dentists and pharmacists practising in the grouped institution, appointed by members of the council;
- A representative from the council of nurses who work in the grouped institution, appointed by members of the council;
- A representative from the multidisciplinary council of people who work in the grouped institution, appointed by members of the council;
- A representative from the grouped institution’s Users' Committee (which continues to exist under Section 203), appointed by members of the committee;
- One person appointed by the board of directors of the grouped institution’s foundations;
- One person appointed by members of the grouped institution;
- Two persons co-opted by the members referred to in subparagraphs 1 to 7, to ensure the region’s English-speaking community is properly represented.
According to Section 211, JHSB's Advisory Committee has the following functions:
- Keeping the integrated centre’s board of directors up to date with the English-speaking community’s specific needs for health and social services and recommending measures to the board to ensure that the services the group institution provides meet those needs;
- Making recommendations to the integrated centre’s board of directors on the structure and operation of the grouped institution;
- Acting as liaison between the region’s English-speaking community and the integrated centre, the grouped institution, its members, and its foundation;
- Making recommendations to the integrated centre’s board of directors to ensure the continuity of English-language services in the grouped institution’s facilities, improve service quality, and develop existing services;
- Giving an opinion on the organization plan drawn up under Section 183 of the Act respecting health services and social services with respect to the integrated centre’s structure, management, services, and departments;
- Taking on any other role the integrated centre’s board of directors entrusts to it.
